Sermon Summary
The garments we must put on
Revelation 19:1–8 (NASB95) — 1 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; 2 because His judgments are true and righteous; for He has judged the great harlot who was corrupting the earth with her immorality, and He has avenged the blood of His bond-servants on her.” 3 And a second time they said, “Hallelujah! Her smoke rises up forever and ever.” 4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!” 5 And a voice came from the throne, saying, “Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and the great.” 6 Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. 7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” 8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Colossians 3:12 (NASB95) — 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;
Jesus explained about His return before He died on the cross:
John 14:1–3 (NASB95) — 1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
This message is like a promise made by a bridegroom to his bride. We believe that we are the bride of the Lord. Therefore, we must prepare ourselves. One of the things we must prepare is our wedding garment. The bride wears fine linen. In today’s passage, it is said that this garment represents the righteous deeds of the saints.
There are various types of garments:
Everyday clothing, garments for war, and the fine linen wedding attire for the day of the marriage.
The founding pastor mentioned that, including this fine linen, there are 13 garments that saints must wear.
However, if we do not understand the Word, fail to receive grace, and do not lead a vibrant church life by the end of days, we will inevitably face shame, like the young man in Mark 14.
When Adam fell, the garments made of fig leaves failed to cover his shame. Similarly, we cannot cover our shame by our own strength. The garment we must wear is one that God Himself must provide for us.
Revelation 3:18 (NASB95) — 18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.
Colossians 3:12 (NASB95) — 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;
Apostle Paul is explaining in Colossians God’s command for us to put on holiness in Lev 11:44-45, 20:7, 26, 21:8, Exod 19:6, 1 Pet 1:15-16, 1 Thess 4:7, 1 John 3:3, 2 Cor 7:1, Heb 12:14
Do we Zion members have these five pieces of garments as we have been believing in Jesus for many years until today?
- Compassion
Lamentations 3:22 (NASB95) — 22 The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.
Romans 9:16 (NASB95) — 16 So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy.
Luke 15:20 (NASB95) — 20 “So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
- Compassion is the first condition for saving us in the Lord.
Ephesians 2:4 (NASB95) — 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
Titus 3:5–7 (NASB95) — 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
- Compassion is the expression of Jesus for sinners.
1 Timothy 1:13 (NASB95) — 13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;
1 Peter 2:10 (NASB95) — 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
- Compassion is the blessed grace of Jesus Christ.
James 5:11 (NASB95) — 11 We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.
Living in God’s compassion (矜恤) is the way for us to be sanctified to become holy people (saints) of God. That’s why we must not miss out on God’s compassion. And we need to learn to have compassion as our Lord has given us His compassion.
1 Peter 1:3 (NASB95) — 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
It is a principle (way) of life.
Matthew 5:7 (NASB95) — 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Exodus 34:6–7 (NASB95) — 6 Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; 7 who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”
- Kindness
Romans 3:12 (NASB95) — 12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.”
Romans 11:22 (NASB95) — 22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
Ephesians 2:7 (NASB95) — 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
- Lovingkindness is God’s trait.
Titus 3:4 (NASB95) — 4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,
Titus 3:7 (NASB95) — 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
2 Corinthians 1:3 (NASB95) — 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
- God’s lovingkindness is eternal.
Lamentations 3:22 (NASB95) — 22 The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.
How shall we apply Jesus’ lovingkindness in our life?

③ Encouraging the weak (Rom 14:1-15)
④ Forgive and comfort (2 Cor 2:1-10)
⑤ Sharing the burden (help) (Gal 6:2, 4)
⑥ Remain in God (Rom 12:11)
⑦ Do not judge or criticize (Matt 7:1-3)
- Humility
Proverbs 15:33 (NASB95) — 33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction for wisdom, And before honor comes humility.
In the Bible, humility is:
① Recognizing and confessing my sins before God,
② Knowing that it is impossible to please God on my own,

- Gentleness
One of the fruit of the Spirit:
Galatians 5:22 (NASB95) — 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Titus 3:2 (NASB95) — 2 to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men.
