    Sermon Summary
Hebrews 08 – The Elementary Teaching and The Word of Righteousness

    Scripture: Hebrews 6:1-8

    Introduction

We must deepen our faith and understanding of God’s Word. He emphasizes the need to graduate from elementary teachings and move towards the word of righteousness. The speaker references the book of Hebrews, particularly Chapter 6, to explore the difference between elementary teachings about Christ and the word of righteousness. He uses analogies of fruit-bearing trees, language acquisition, and love to illustrate the importance of putting God’s Word into practice.

    Elementary Teaching about Christ

Our first main point focuses on the elementary teachings about Christ. We must understand that leaving the elementary teachings of Christ doesn’t mean abandoning them. Instead, it signifies moving beyond the basics and growing in faith. The elementary teachings are compared to the foundation of a building, something essential but not meant to be repeated.

So what are these foundational principles? They encompass repentance from dead works, faith in God, instructions regarding washings, and the laying on of hands. These doctrines are the cornerstones of our faith and salvation, guiding us from the wilderness of sin toward a life filled with faith and righteousness.

    The Word of Righteousness

Our second main point revolves around the Word of righteousness. We can see parallels drawn between the structure of the tabernacle and our spiritual journey. The courtyard signifies our repentance and forgiveness, where our walk with God commences. Yet, it is the holy place that remains a missing link in our journey. This sacred space represents our need to comprehend and apply the gospel, symbolized by the table of showbread, portraying Jesus as the Word of God. The lampstand radiates spiritual understanding, while the altar of incense emphasizes the depth of our prayers and intimate communion with the Divine. We must realize that our prayers must reflect our spiritual maturity and relationship with God, extending beyond mere pleas for help.

The author of Hebrews earnestly implores us to move beyond the rudimentary teachings of Christ and to embrace the deeper spiritual understanding that comes with maturity. Remaining in the courtyard and failing to venture into the holy place puts us at risk of spiritual stagnation.
As we transition to the concept of the word of righteousness, I entreat you to understand the importance of absorbing God’s Word like parched soil absorbs the nourishing rain. Our faith must be deeply rooted, enabling us to withstand life’s storms. The key lies in absorbing the Word, applying it in our lives, and witnessing the abundant fruit it bears.

The Act of Fulfilling the Word through Love

Our third main point emphasizes that the Word of righteousness is not just about understanding but also about acting in faith and love. We must follow the example of Abraham, who patiently waited for the fulfilment of God’s promise. Our faith should lead to action, and we should believe all the way to the end.

Finally, we must realize that the Word of righteousness is fulfilled through the love of Christ. Love is the fruit of our faith, and it is this love that will remain when all else fades away. This love is the highest level of the Word of God and is essential for understanding the full picture of God’s kingdom.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, let us mature in our faith, moving beyond the elementary teachings of Christ, and embracing the deeper understanding found in the Word of righteousness. As we absorb the Word and bear the fruit of love, we draw closer to God’s promises, transfiguration, and eternal life. May we all continue to mature in faith, led by the Holy Spirit, and receive the blessings of Melchizedek.

    AMEN.

    Pastor Samuel Kim
