    Sermon Summary
A Multitude Clothed in White Robes

    Scripture: Revelation 7:9-17

In the book of Revelations, white robes are described as the deeds of the saints. Revelation 7 speaks of the 144,000. These are saints who kept their faith and have their clothes washed in the blood of the Lamb, they wear these white robes. May we live lives that are praised even by the angels in heaven.

    1. Who wears white robes?

    i) Priests (Leviticus 16:4)
The priests wash themselves, then wear these white linen garments, from head to toe. God has also called us to serve in his holy sanctuary and wear these white linen garments. That is, clothed with His holiness.

    ii) Jesus (Matthew 17:2)
When Jesus transfigured, He also wore white garments that were white as light. May we be covered with the light of God’s glory so our shame and darkness will be washed away.

iii) Angels (Acts 1:10, Revelation 15:6)
Angels are messengers of God’s Word, they deliver the good news of the gospel to others. When we do the same, we’ll also be wearing these white robes.

    iv) 24 elders (Revelation 4:4)
The 24 elders around God’s throne also wore white.

    v) Saints of the churches in the end time (Revelation 3:18)
The multitude in heaven also wore white (Revelation 19:14). This means if we don’t wear this white garment, we cannot be in heaven.

We humans, have no ability to wash our garments white, we cannot get rid of our sins and shame. In fact, God has to give us the garment, we don’t even have ability to have it without God.(Revelation 3:5, Ecclesiastes 9:8)

To keep our robes white, we need to wash them (in Jesus’ blood) all the time.

    2. How are the saints who are clothed in white robes described?

    i) They carried palm branches in their hands, this represents that they have overcome and are victorious. (Leviticus 23:40, John 12:13)

What do we need to overcome?
    • Have we overcome our sins?
    • Have we overcome the temptations in this world?
    • We need to overcome ourselves.
    • We also need to overcome the devil.

We need not be afraid of the devil or his work, he cannot do anything to you without God’s permission. So long as we are under God’s protection, he cannot hurt or harm you, he can only put temptations in our way.

Through the darkness, we should grow and mature in faith. Do not be afraid.

    Revelation 14:4
These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.

This is when the word of God is proclaimed to the world and many people come to believe. May we live to see this day and may all our church members attain this level of faith. And let us bring the word to all peoples (Acts 1:8).

    Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Is the end coming? Yes, when the gospel is being preached to the ends of this world.

A great multitude means they are not numbered. Like when God told Abraham to count the stars (Genesis 15:5). This multitude is the children of Abraham in the end time. The 144,000 are those called to proclaim the word of God at the end time so that many can become children of Abraham.

    (Matthew 26:28, John 6:52-58, Ephesians 2:18, Hebrews 9:14)

The blood of Jesus washes our robes clean and allows us access to the throne of the Father.

Those who come to believe in Jesus and repent will have their robes washed clean. Repentance is turning around 180 degrees, and changing our ways and lifestyle. If not, you’re not truly repenting.

The power of the blood of Jesus washes us clean, no other soap can do that, we cannot clean ourselves from sin.

In the Bible, some people were given positions of honour and garments. But they cannot bear the weight of those garments and that led to their downfall.

For example: King Saul, and many high priests. Don’t only wear these robes outwardly, but let us be washed clean deep inside. So that when God require obedience from us, we can give it to Him.

During our church dedication service, we are not only dedicating the church building but also ourselves to serve Him, so let us repent, be clean and put on these white robes. (Isaiah 66:1)

The blessings we receive when we wear the white robes
    1. We will be near God’s throne
    2. We will serve God day and night, meaning we will enjoy His grace and joy day and night.
    3. We will be in His glory
    4. There is no more suffering, tears, or pain.
    5. God will be among us and we will be His people (Revelation 21:2-4, Isaiah 49:10)

Serve in Greek is λατρεύουσιν (latreuousin) meaning to serve, especially God, perhaps simply; worship.
Serve in Hebrew is Abad, meaning to serve and worship.

Let us be His people who dwell in His house and serve Him, wearing white clean robes (Psalm 84:10).

    AMEN!

    Pastor Samuel Kim
